The works comprise two elements: the construction of a new single-storey extension of approximately 33m² to provide a secure entrance foyer, office, accessible WC, meeting room and circulation space; and the internal remodelling of approximately 140m² of existing accommodation to create secure and resilient specialist teaching, break-out and dining spaces. Associated works include the enclosure of the internal courtyard (high-level windows, anti-climb rollers and a new safety surface), site clearance including the removal of one tree, an extended tarmac footpath giving level access to the new entrance, kerb alterations with a dropped kerb and tactile paving, reinstatement and re-marking of part of the car park including an accessible bay, new soft landscaping, bollard lighting, a new rainwater downpipe connection and alterations to below-ground drainage. Corby Closed Landfill is located on the northern outskirts of Corby. The landfill covers approximately thirteen (13) hectares. The volume of waste deposited into the site is unknown but is estimated to be in the order of 1.4Mm3 to a depth of around sixteen (16) metres. The buried waste produces landfill gas and leachate. The site has no form of impermeable containment and as such is considered to be a "dilute and disperse" site. The Council has a statutory duty under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 to manage the risks posed by the gas and leachate emissions produced on site. The procurement of the Closed Landfill Site Operations and Maintenance will enable the Council to continue to fulfil its statutory obligations under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and remain compliant with the site's Environmental Permit and Trade Effluent Consent.
