ITT TMBC - Cemetery Management Software

Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council

Scope as published

Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council is out to market for a new digital software solution for managing the records of Tonbridge Cemetery. Located on Shipbourne Road, close to Tonbridge town centre, Tonbridge Cemetery was established in 1858 and has served the local community for more than 160 years. The cemetery includes historic chapel buildings dating from the 1860s, mature, landscaped grounds, and a memorial garden that provides a peaceful setting for the interment and remembrance of cremated remains. Covering approximately 14 hectares (34.6 acres), Tonbridge Cemetery is one of the borough's largest and most historic public open spaces. With around 14,000 grave spaces, the cemetery reflects generations of local history and continues to provide an important place of remembrance for residents and visitors alike. Historically, cemetery records were maintained through handwritten registers, burial books, and paper plans. To improve efficiency and accessibility, a digital cemetery management system was introduced in 2002, enabling records to be digitised and managed electronically. A key requirement of any future system will be the ability to securely migrate all existing records, ensuring the continued preservation and accessibility of both historic and current cemetery data.
