The Creative Industries are a priority growth sector within both the UK’s Industrial Strategy and the West Midlands Growth Plan. The region has significant strengths in areas such as screen industries, gaming, CreaTech, design and fashion, with the potential to drive further economic growth, investment and job creation in these key growth sectors. The West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) is developing the Catalyst Fund as part of the Creative Places Growth Fund, with the goal of supporting the strengthening of a limited number of specialist creative hubs and supporting the diverse diaspora of creatives across the region.
The West Midlands creative economy is supported by a diverse ecosystem of creative businesses, freelancers, cultural organisations, networks and sector bodies. While the region has significant strengths and growth opportunities, evidence gathered through the Creative Places Growth Fund programme highlights ongoing challenges around fragmented networks, limited collaboration between places and sectors, uneven access to opportunities, and leadership capacity constraints within creative organisations. To address these challenges, West Midland Combined Authority (WMCA) is exploring the development of a support programme combining grant funding and tailored development support across two interconnected workstreams with an indicative value of approximately £2-2.5million.

It must go beyond the duty set out by the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, which only represents the needs of those who require support in domestic abuse safe accommodation. The assessment we require will span across the continuum of domestic abuse, capturing need at prevention, support and crisis stages. This will include mapping the current domestic abuse pathways, across Criminal Justice services, Children Services, Health, Housing/Homelessness, Education, Adult Social Care etc. (this is a non-exhaustive list), to support Birmingham’s whole systems approach to supporting survivors of domestic abuse.
